Careers

At Groundline, your career looks a little different…..here's how.

Real ownership, from day one
At Groundline, you're not just another engineer on a big team. You get real ownership of complex, high-impact transmission projects from day one.

Room to grow, on your terms
We're growing fast across New Zealand, Australia, the UK, and the USA, which means more opportunity, more variety in the work, and more room to build a career on your own terms.

People come first
We invest in our people because that's what actually drives the business forward. New hires, new markets, and new capability all exist to make Groundline a better place to work, not the other way around.

You'll work alongside experienced engineers who care about doing the work properly, on projects that genuinely matter to the energy networks people rely on every day.

UK Team

Our Culture

We invest in our people well beyond day-to-day work.
Every employee gets a paid volunteer day each year to give back to causes they care about. As a business, we also sponsor charities we believe in.

Building a more diverse industry
Our Women in Engineering program reflects our commitment to building a more diverse and inclusive industry, not just an inclusive Groundline.

Real support for those starting out
Our graduate and apprentice programs offer structured pathways into the profession, backed by genuine mentorship from experienced engineers. No one's left to find their own way.

And yes, we know how to have fun…
It's not all serious business, either, we make time for team activities and events throughout the year, Wacky Shirt Wednesday among them, because taking engineering seriously doesn't mean taking ourselves too seriously.

Together, these programs (and the odd bit of wackiness) reflect what it's actually like to work here, a business that genuinely invests in its people, backs the communities it operates in, and still knows how to enjoy the ride.

Women in Engineering

Driven by our CEO Kyle James, Supporting Women in Engineering is a major part of what we do here at Groundline.

Across our New Zealand, UK, and US offices, we recognize and celebrate the talented women shaping the future of our industry right here at Groundline. As part of this we sponsor the Women in Engineering Christchurch (WiE) that is bringing more women into the industry.

Annual Volunteer Day

Each year, our NZ team takes part in a Volunteer Day, giving back to the communities and environments. In partnership with local organizations, we support projects that create a lasting impact while strengthening team connections. Over the past three years alone, our team has planted 1,810 native trees, including 650 in 2026, 660 in 2025, and 500 in 2024 helping to restore and protect local landscapes for future generations.

Annual Charity Fundraiser

Each year, our UK team takes part in an Annual Charity Fundraiser, supporting our nominated charity Crohn's & Colitis UK through a range of engaging activities designed to bring employees together. Through donations, friendly competition and community spirit, we help support a worthwhile cause while creating memorable experiences for our teams.

Graduates

At Groundline, we value investing in our people. Our Graduate Programme is designed for university graduates looking to apply their academic knowledge in a real world environment, we provide the training, guidance, and help build their skills and confidence needed to thrive in their careers. We see this as a major investment in our industry and adding strength and value to our customers and the infrastructure of the regions we operate in.

Apprenticeships

We value developing future talent. Our Apprenticeship Programme combines hands-on experience with learning, giving apprentices the opportunity to earn while they are still learning, building industry skills, and gaining valuable experience while being supported every step of the way from the start. We see this as an investment in the future of our industry, adding long term value to our customers, our communities, and the infrastructure we help deliver.

Graduate Engineer

Fergus

"Groundline really stood out to me as an option for my first engineering role because of the industry we work in and the fantastic team we have here. From the moment I came in for my interview, I could tell the office had a slightly more relaxed and welcoming environment. Since joining, I’ve had the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects in the transmission sector and was given meaningful responsibility early on and encouraged to take ownership of my work. I’d say this is one of Groundline’s biggest strengths. Not often you find the same level of opportunity and exposure as a graduate.

The team is incredibly knowledgeable, and there is always something new to learn within this fascinating and growing industry. I felt welcomed, supportive and part of the team from day one. Which was hugely reassuring when starting my first job."

Graduate Engineer

Maia

"I joined Groundline because I was excited to work on innovative projects that contribute to a greener future for New Zealand, and because I had heard great things about the team and culture. The graduate programme has provided a strong balance of learning and hands-on experience, allowing me to work on real projects while developing my technical knowledge of transmission line infrastructure. In my first eight months, I've worked on a diverse range of projects that have challenged me and accelerated my growth as an engineer.

What has stood out most is the supportive and approachable nature of the team. Everyone is willing to share their knowledge and help you succeed. Groundline is a collaborative environment where graduates are trusted with responsibility while being given the guidance and support needed to continue learning and developing."

Apprentice CAD Technician

Harvey

"I chose Groundline after applying through the UK Government apprenticeship website. The welcoming atmosphere during the interview stages and the company’s clear goal of developing employees alongside its growth made it stand out to me. My experience so far has been excellent, especially as this is my first real working environment. Groundline has helped me gain industry knowledge and valuable skills while providing a culture where people support one another and asking questions is encouraged. As an apprentice, learning from colleagues with a wide range of industry experience has been invaluable to my development. Groundline’s culture is something I wouldn’t trade for the world. Everyone is friendly, happy to help, and committed to a no-blame culture that encourages growth. The wellbeing benefits are also fantastic, including a birthday day off and a funded wellbeing day. As I approach my first year at Groundline, I’m excited for the years ahead."

OHL Design Apprentice

Max

"I chose to join Groundline as an Overhead Line Design Apprentice because of the opportunity to gain hands-on industry experience while developing technical skills through structured training and mentorship. Throughout my degree apprenticeship, I've been given the chance to work on a variety of projects ranging from 132kV to 400kV, helping me build confidence, expand my knowledge, and apply what I've learned in a real-world environment. The Degree Apprenticeship program provides a great balance of learning at university and practical experience at work, allowing apprentices to develop both professionally and personally. What has stood out most is the supportive company culture, where colleagues across the country (and even across the globe sometimes) are always willing to share their knowledge and provide guidance. Groundline has invested in my development from day one, making me feel valued and giving me a clear pathway for future growth within the industry."
